WELCOME BIRTHSMARTER!!!

FRIENDS!

You’ve been rooting for me and it is with so much joy that I can introduce my new baby Birthsmarter.

To say that this has been a long time coming is an understatement. In 2011, when I first became a postpartum doula, I called my brother and asked him to make me a website. I knew I would need a web presence and didn’t know where to begin. My brother, an award-winning developer, declined and politely told me to do it myself. I felt disappointed and intimidated, but also knew I had an opportunity to become more capable. I strive to be capable. Nothing gives me more satisfaction, regardless of the circumstances. In fact, it is likely what sparked my deep investigation into childbirth and parenting. To be “capable” means “having the ability, fitness, or quality necessary to do or achieve a specified thing.” Since well before 2011 I have been exploring how humans can become more capable – specifically when it comes to raising littles. The status quo is producing people who are “just fine” but I know we can do better. Over the last five years I’ve gotten the insiders view, tried out some of my own theories, and know, so honestly, that the world needs more help in this department.

Enter Birthsmarter! My mission is to provide elevated educational experiences to help the modern parent #win. With a rich understanding of education theory and nearly a decade of experience supporting new parents I have formalized a childbirth curriculum that balances the latest evidence with critical thinking and a global perspective. In addition to Birthing Classes, we will offer specialized workshops on Breastfeeding and Newborn Care, Preparing for The Fourth Trimester, Pelvic Floor Health + Wellness, and Fatherhood (coming Father’s Day!). To help me reach more people and affect more change I am hiring and training a team of teachers this spring and summer.

I know there is a lot of competition in this space, especially in New York City. I bow to all of my colleagues – especially those who blazed the trail before me. While I am rooting for the revolution with the best of them, right now, competition is both necessary and important. I hope, with your help, I can attract more and more expectant parents!

While I have come a long way from a new postpartum doula struggling to make a website - I still feel the intimidation about what lies ahead. I hope, with your help, Birthsmarter becomes the launching pad for the quality education and resources new parents, everywhere, deserve.

Check out the site, share the schedule, send me thoughts and suggestions. I am here because of you and I am so grateful.
